Ski and Rock was formed by Peter Kershaw in 1996 with the aim of organising activity holidays which are run in a relaxed inclusive activity environment. These holidays have an outdoor activity during the day with dance in the evening. Initially, the holidays were organised to combine skiing with modern jive. Since then other activities have been brought in to allow holidays to be organised outside the skiing season. Other dance styles have been added to some of the holidays, to provide more choices.
Peter is experienced in a variety of outdoor activities and has acted as a coach for both skiing and wind surfing as well as sky diving. He has been involved with modern Jive for many years and has helped at various dance venues, including the teaching of beginners.
Ski and Rock pride themselves on organising all inclusive holidays where everyone is made welcome and there are no hidden extra costs. All holidays are run in a way to make sure that everyone gains the greatest enjoyment possible. Coaching is provided both for the daytime activity as well as the evening dancing.
Our aim is to help you enjoy and improve you’re dancing in a relaxed inclusive holiday environment.
Our dance style must be the easiest dance to learn. Beginners and relatively new dancers will be given easy basic lessons. Footwork although helpful later on, is not necessary to begin with. Partners are not necessary, as we all change partners through the evening to help each other and that includes some experienced helpers.
The main dance style is usually known as Modern Jive (Ceroc/ LeRoc). Other similar styles inc Blitz, Le-Swing and many other names that end with Jive, or follow this dance style. Some holidays include Swing, Salsa, Cha-cha and Tango.
Our holidays usually have three main dance nights and one farewell party night, per week. Where additional dance styles are offered, you will either have a choice of class or we will run it on additional evenings, (see appropriate holiday details and contact us for more information).
Professional dance instructors provide evening lessons, for both beginner and intermediate dancers.
Freestyle dancing takes place for the remainder of the evening after the lessons. On non dance evenings, those seeking more dancing usually check out the local bars and clubs.
